Which inverter is right for you?

Inverters range in size from 100  to 10,000 watts per hour, from modified sine wave,  sine wave to grid-tie, and some are simply an inverter while others include electronics for monitoring, starting generators, etc; to ones with battery chargers. So you should have a good idea of what your requirements are.

Looking for an in-expensive solution, you may want to consider a modified sine wave inverter. If you have an office where you are using electronic equipment which require a full sine wave, you can power the house with a modified sine wave while using a smaller sine wave inverter in the office.

If your electrical requirements are larger and you have a backup system in place than you would want a sine wave inverter with the electronics to do manage your system.

Tying your system to a power utility, than you need to consider an inverter with inter-tie capabilities.

And if you want a system which just ties into the utility so you can sell them electric, than a string inverter is the way to go.

Inverter types

There are several types of inverters which basically do the same thing and that is convert your DC power to AC power.

• MODIFIED SINE WAVE - These are generally less expensive than true sine wave inverters. In short there output is less pure and have been known to produce problems running some kinds of electronic equipment such as laser printers, etc.  These inverters run from a battery or battery bank.  They range from portable to stationary mounted units.

• SINE WAVE - These units tend to be more costly but they do provide a purer AC output. These inverters also run from a battery or battery bank and range from portable to stationary mounted units.

• INVERTER/CHARGER - These are your higher end inverters and they come in both modified sine wave and full sine wave.  They are stationary mounted and run from batteries. These units allow for AC input from either a utility or generator to run the charger. When there is an AC input the unit changes from being an inverter to being a battery charger. At which time, any AC electric being used comes from the AC source and not the inverter.  When in the charging mode, it is a great time to use appliances and equipment which would normally be too much of a drain on your solar system.

• GRID-TIE INTERACTIVE - These are basically the big brother of the sine wave inverter/charger.  They have all the same features and functions as the above units plus they smoothly interface with your local utility so that you can sell off your extra electric.  You can than buy back electric from the utility when your production can't keep up with your demands (this is called grid-tie and it is not available in all locations, please check with your local utility as to availability).  If grid-tie is not available in your area but you have access to utility power, you may want to consider one of these units anyway.

• GRID-TIE STRING INVERTERS - These inverters are becoming very popular in areas with there is utility power available.  These units sell electric to the utilities directly from your solar panels, wind generators, and/or hydroelectric system. One of the advantages is that no batteries are involved. On the flip side, when you stop generating electric, you have no electric stored up so you than have to buy electric, which for a lot of people may not be a disadvantage at all.

When making a  purchase from this site, shipping  charges are normally included when placing your order.. 
On some large items such as appliances, batteries, etc. the shipping and possibly crating fees may be extra.  These items are noted by an * at the end of the Part Number. 
In such case, you will be notified of the extra charges, which need to be paid prior to shipping.
